Student Support Team (SST) The Student Support Team (SST) is made up of a diverse group of Havergal faculty and staff from the Junior and Upper Schools who are responsible for overseeing the umbrella of student support services that place students at the centre of their care. These people are available to guide a student through her school experience and, in particular, assist her in managing academic, social, emotional, physical, mental and spiritual needs. Havergal’s approach to supporting the wellness needs of students is to establish a circle of care that places the student at the centre. SST members work closely with students to help th em navigate, manage and resolve different kinds of challenges they experience as they progress through the school. This approach is student-centric and case-specific whereby the composition of the circle of care team providing support is uniquely established. In this model, a circle of care team is comprised of people in proportion to the specific needs presenting for a student. Every circle of care team has a designated leader who assumes responsibility for managing the case and communicating to parents.
Sometimes students are additionally supported by professionals outside the SST.
The SST is comprised of the Vice Principal School Life & Student Wellness, Head of Junior School, Head of Middle School, Head of Senior School, Head of Boarding School, Head of Guidance, Learning Support Specialists, Athletic Director, Director of Food Services, Social Worker, Child & Youth Worker, Chaplain, Security and the School Nurse.
Allergies Several Havergal students, faculty and staff have life threatening allergies. Exposure to even a tiny amount of allergen can trigger a reaction that could prove fatal within minutes. Havergal College exercises reasonable care to ensure that all persons are safe; however, the school cannot assume responsibility for providing a completely allergen-free environment. Havergal is an “allergen aware” school. Ensuring the safety of all anaphylactic persons in a school setting and at school-sanctioned co-curricular events depends on the cooperation of the entire school community including parents, students, faculty, staff, business and operations personnel and volunteers. If your daughter develops an allergy at any time during the calendar year, it is essential that you either contact the School Nurse or update your daughter’s health information online. We appreciate your sensitive attention to this matter.
● It is the responsibility of students who know they may experience an anaphylactic reaction to carry their own epi-pen at all times.
