Wellness Defined At Havergal, student wellness is framed within a strategic initiative that places students at the centre. Wellness is related to well-being, health promotion and personal happiness. Broadly speaking, we conceptualize wellness in six domains: academic, social, emotional, physical, mental and spiritual. We understand that these domains do not operate in silos; they are multidimensional and exist interdependently in the lives of students at every age and stage of human development. We also understand that the issues presenting as challenges in JK-Grade 12 students are steeped in their lived experience as Kindergarten, Junior, Middle, Senior, Day and Boarding School students. Havergal takes a strategic approach by developing programmatic initiatives that support student wellness needs proactively. We also appreciate that wellness is informed by visible and invisible cultural and environmental forces. And while our principal goal is to develop in students their resilience, strength and human potential, we know that students also need to be supported through challenges, setbacks and disappointments. At its core, Havergal’s approach to wellness is deliberate, focused and relational. Our goal is to create a positive and nurturing school culture whereby students become self-advocates for their personal wellness needs. And when that is not possible, we want our students to know that people are available within the walls of the school to help them.
