Private Music Instruction (Optional)

The school’s Music Program is enhanced by students who engage in music instruction beyond the academic program at school. Havergal has facilities to support private music instruction. The instruction is of a high quality and taught by instructors whose qualifications and experience have been reviewed by Havergal College’s Music Department. While students and parents appreciate the convenience of having private instruction at school, the decision to take private lessons should be considered very carefully as it requires thoughtful family planning regarding the scheduling of a weekly lesson. Lesson times cannot be easily changed. Additionally, it is prudent to consider a one-year commitment as the teacher will require this time-frame in order to become acquainted with your daughter’s learning styles and full talent potential. A complete listing of instruments, including voice, is included on the Private Music Instruction Application, which is included in the Back to School information available online ( ​ www.havergal.on.ca/backtoschool ​ ). Private instruction is available to Upper School students in accordance with the protocol below: 1. Faculty members of the Havergal College Music Department will screen private music instructors. Only approved instructors may work with Havergal students at Havergal College. 2. Private music instructors using Havergal facilities will instruct only students enrolled at Havergal. 3. Private music instructors will sign in and sign out at the Security Desk in the Upper School. 4. Private music instructors will restrict their use of the Havergal facilities space dedicated to music instruction as designated by members of the Havergal College Music Department. 5. Private music instruction may only take place on school days during the following time restrictions: ● 6:30 am to 8 am ● lunch ● after school to 7 pm 6. No private music instruction may take place on weekends or school holidays. 7. Private music instructors will maintain up-to-date contact information with parents. 8. Private music instructors will coordinate all lessons with students including cancellations and make-up lessons. 9. Private music instructors will manage all billing-related matters directly with the parents of Day students including invoices and receipts of payment. 10. Students receiving a scholarship for private music instruction will be billed in a manner that is consistent for all students. The private music instructor will bill parents for the full amount of
