situations. The GEP includes: local partnerships, the Exchange program and international partnerships.
Local Partnerships Middle School and Senior School students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of local partnerships across Toronto, each with a different focus. All of our partnerships have our students working with diverse groups of people toward a shared purpose. In the Junior School, students design initiatives with the Forum for Change club that meets three times a week with the Forum for Change and Junior School staff. Students can pursue their classroom learning further, ask questions, follow their passions, pitch their ideas for engaging in the world and explore how to act on them. Exchange Program The Exchange Program at Havergal College offers students in Grades 8 and 10 the opportunity to take part in experiential learning and personal development through living and studying in another country and, in return, hosting a visiting Exchange student. The Exchange experience enables students to see themselves as part of the international community and develop into confident, capable, compassionate young women who can contribute to the global community. Students who participate in the Exchange program must comply with Havergal’s Extended Absence policy. Academic Policy for Students Going on Exchange The school highly values exchange opportunities; however, students are responsible and accountable for Havergal course content. Our goal is to provide support to students such that they can benefit from the exchange without academic penalty. Exchange guidelines are specified in materials made available to parents and students. 1. To ensure that students going on Exchange receive the support that they need, students will inform all of their teachers of their Exchange dates and discuss academic requirements well in advance of their departure. 2. In all subjects, course teams with the support of the Department Head will decide what is considered essential material that must be covered and how it will be covered while students are away on Exchange. Where feasible, students will not be expected to complete assessments due when they were away, although they are responsible for the material covered. In some courses, this may not be possible.
