Family Handbook 2019-20

3. Do not leave your vehicle unattended vehicles in the front driveway—ever. The front driveway is designated by the city as being an emergency services thoroughfare. Fire trucks, police cars, and / or ambulances must have direct access to the front doors of the school whenever they are called to the school. Unattended parked vehicles can seriously jeopardize the safety of our students when they obstruct the placement and movement of emergency vehicles. If there is a pressing need for you to drop off anything at Security, please park in the adjacent lots. 4. Pack to grab. Some students carpool and a designated driver can drop off as many as four passengers, which of course requires students to get their gear from the trunk of a car or the back of an SUV. Students should pack their belongings knowing they have to grab them quickly to speed things up considerably. The same is true for single passengers in cars with hockey bags, ski equipment, tubas, cellos and trumpets. Pick-Up Pick-up is permitted on both the right and left sides of the front curved driveway. Security will be present to assist traffic flow from 3:15-4 pm. Although the school day ends at 3:35 pm, Monday to Friday, it is not uncommon for parents to arrive up to 45 minutes early prior to dismissal. Please be courteous to your fellow drivers by signalling your intentions; drive slowly and cautiously; and please respect and comply with directives of the Security Guard whose presence is meant to keep students safe and traffic flowing. Block Rotation The school operates on a rotating, four-block, eight-day cycle that students experience as odd and even days. In this model, your daughter will see her respective subject teachers every other day. The block rotation schedule has been established for the entire school year and your daughter can access it in print by referring to her school-issued student agenda or through the online calendar.
