Upper School Routines
Drop-Off
Drop-off is the busiest time of the school day and the following protocols have been developed by our Security Team to help keep our students safe.
● Drivers are to drop off passengers on the right side of the front curved driveway only. Do not let passengers out on the left side of the front curved driveway adjacent to Avenue Road. This directive keeps students safe because it prevents them from darting in between parked cars and across a busy driveway at a time in the school day when drivers may be otherwise preoccupied. ● Security will be present to assist traffic flow during drop off from 8-8:30 am. It is essential that you follow their directives.
Following through on these suggestions will also significantly improve your morning drop-off experience:
1. Drive past the bend to the end. Many drivers stop at the bend in the Upper School driveway to let their passenger(s) out instead of driving as far as possible. Stopping before the bend creates an instant traffic jam. Driving an extra 20 metres (past the bend and the front doors of the school) not only keeps south- and north-bound traffic flowing better on Avenue Road, but it makes dropping off your passenger(s) safer. 2. Stop and hop. When you come to a complete stop, be sure your passenger is ready to hop out of your vehicle. Discourage your daughter from texting, getting permission slips signed by the driver, putting on her boots, looking for her boots and / or grooming the family pet. Bags should be kept close at hand and not be stored in the trunk. Students who access their belongings from the trunk of cars and SUVs significantly impede the smooth flow of Havergal’s drop-off procedure.
