Safety and Security   Havergal has a dedicated and professionally  trained  security  team  that helps keep  the  school  community and  its premises  safe and  secure 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per  year.  Guests and  visitors are  required  to  sign‐in and  sign‐out of  the  school. Havergal’s  security  personnel help develop and  implement  safety protocols  in  conjunc on with  the police and fire  departments  to ensure  the  school’s emergency procedures are  current. 

Emergency Procedures  Evacua on 

Evacua on drills are held  six  mes  throughout  the  school  year  in accordance with  the Ontario Fire  Code. The  signal  to evacuate  is a  con nuous  triple  ring. All  individuals must  leave  immediately by  the nearest exit and assemble  in designated parking  lots around Upper School by House and Form  so  the DSO  can account  for  student a endance. Emergency evacua on  informa on  is posted  in  each  room. Students,  faculty and  staff are  instructed  to  leave  their belongings  in  the building.  Evacua ons occur  in  the event of a fire, gas  leak or  some other emergency  in which  the building  must be evacuated  immediately  regardless of  the weather.   Lockdown  Lockdown drills are prac ced  two  mes  in  the  school  year  in accordance with Ontario Safe  Schools guidelines. A  lockdown  is a  response  to a  cri cal emergency  situa on wherein  the  evacua on of a  school building  is neither  safe nor advisable and  steps are  required  to  isolate  students,  faculty and  staff members  from danger. Generally  the  threat  lies  inside  the building.  In a  lockdown  situa on,  students gather  in  the  closest  lockable  space. The  signal  to go  into a  lockdown  is  three bells  followed by an announcement  from Security  indica ng  the ac on  required. Students  must  turn off  their  cell phones, pull down all blinds,  turn  lights off and  remain absolutely quiet!  Under no  circumstances  should  students  leave  the  locked down  space or open  the door un l  police personnel escort  you out of  the  space.  In a planned  lockdown drill,  students will be  told  the  drill  is over by Security on  the PA System.  Hold and Secure  Hold and Secure  is a  response  to a  threat  in  the general  vicinity of a  school, but not  related  to  the  school. This  could be a police pursuit, a  crime  in progress or an ac ve  search by  local police  for a
