Achievement Levels ● Level 1: The student demonstrates the specified knowledge and skills with limited effec veness. Students must work at significantly improving learning in specific areas, as necessary, if they are to be successful in the next grade/course. ● Level 2: The student demonstrates the specified knowledge and skills with some effec veness. Students performing at this level need to work on iden fied learning gaps to ensure future success. ● Level 3: The student demonstrates the specified knowledge and skills with considerable effec veness. ● Level 4: The student demonstrates the specified knowledge and skills with a high degree of effec veness. Achievement at level 4 does not mean that the student has achieved expecta ons beyond those specified for the grade/course. Learning Skills and Work Habits The development of learning skills and work habits are an integral part of a student’s learning and are cri cal to student success. Teachers work with students to help them understand and develop learning skills and work habits. Teachers assess, evaluate and report on learning skills and work habits separately from their assessing, evalua ng and repor ng on the achievement of curriculum expecta ons. Unless learning skills are an integral part of the Ministry Curriculum Expecta ons, their assessment is not included in the final grade. Students are assessed on six learning skills in every subject for every repor ng period. They are: 1. Responsibility: Fulfills responsibili es and commitments within the learning environment; 2. Organiza on: Plans and organizes me, materials and equipment to accomplish tasks and achieve goals; 3. Independent Work: Independently monitors, assesses and revises plans to complete tasks and meet goals; 4. Collabora on: Learns with others to achieve a group goal and complete projects; 5. Ini a ve: Demonstrates curiosity and interest in learning and a willingness to extend their learning and that of others; and 6. Self‐Regula on: Sets and monitors progress towards individual goals. Grada ons of achievement are denoted by ‘plus’ or ‘minus’ nota ons. A student may achieve ‘3‐plus’ on one element of an assignment and a ‘4‐plus’ on another.
