3. Assessment prac ces are consistent with recommenda ons documented in psychoeduca onal reports for those students who have specific learning needs. Prac cally speaking, these are overseen and reviewed by Havergal’s Learning Support Specialists.
Course Work Students receive marks in every course they take, which are reported on report cards as percentages. The course work mark consists of evalua ons conducted throughout the year. The evalua on of student learning is the responsibility of the subject teacher and must not include the judgement of the student or of the student’s peers. The course work grade will: ● include evidence that is collected over me from at least three different sources: observa ons, conversa ons and student products; ● represent evidence gathered from a variety of completed assessments throughout the course; and ● reflect the individual student’s achievement of the overall expecta ons for the course. Wri en & Performance Evalua ons There are two kinds of evalua ons at Havergal: (1) wri en evalua ons and (2) performance evalua ons. Wri en evalua ons are pen‐and‐paper evalua ons. Performance evalua ons may involve some wri ng, but they also include a performance piece, for example, playing a musical instrument, performing a monologue or being asked to complete an oral in French, Spanish, Mandarin or English class. Wri en and performance evalua ons are scheduled by teachers to take place during class me and can occur during any block of the school day. Evalua on Students’ work is judged based on Ministry‐prescribed levels of achievement, which are described below. The achievement levels stand in rela on to assignment‐specific assessment rubrics that clearly communicate how students will be evaluated on any given assignment. In this way there is no ambiguity about what teachers are looking for when the evaluate student work. Achievement levels are translated to percentage marks for repor ng purposes in the Upper School only.
