CLASS OF 1955

CLASS OF 1955 ENDOWMENT TOTAL AS AT MAY 31, 2018

CLASS REPS: Jane Dalton Avery, Diane Drewry Elder and Fiona McHaffie McGaw This year, we are all entering our eighth decade. Some of us are succumbing to illness, joint replacements, loss of our partners and other challenging things. Sheila Bowyer Burgard ’s husband Merv passed away in August, as did Heather Kellerhals Stewart ’s husband Rolf. Heather came east in October to visit her brother Peter in Lora Bay, near Thornbury. Her recent book Once there Were Horses is a family memoir of her years growing up on the family farm “Glenquaich” near Barrie. Many of us visited when we were teenagers; see picture below.

Nancy White Thoman, Joan Winearls, Susan Scroggie Metcalf and Gladys Johnston Massey had an impromptu sandwich lunch in November with Mary Saunderson Chamberlain , who was laid up. They had such a good time that they forgot about the time until Mary realized that she had to go out. Joan Winearls is still very involved with the Catherine Steele 1928 archives and has recently been given 10 class scrapbooks of memorabilia! Joan recently took a wonderful German river cruise with a friend. Fiona McHaffie McGaw has a new friend Ray Walker, who loves to travel. They have two trips planned – to his motherland of Bavaria in May, and Newfoundland in July. Fiona visited Jean Keith Bryce at her retirement home in Guelph; her daughter Barbie lives nearby. It is a beautiful residence and she still has her sewing machine, books and pictures around her.

Pat Gay Sills and her husband Tom have been married for 60 years, and still live in Florida. They survived Hurricane Irma in 2017 with little loss, but 1,800 trees came down on the local golf course. They have several grandchildren graduating from university (some with post-graduate degrees) and a second grandson will get married in the summer. Pat recently found her white Havergal graduation dress in a trunk – imagine that! Ursula Style Carter and her husband Bill now spend the winters in Tucson, Arizona. Her new hip is letting her get out and move freely again, but not yet on the golf course.
