So, there you have it! My great grandmother and I, whose lives, despite the genera tions in between, have taken an almost identical path. She died six months before her 100th birthday. Had she lived just six more months, she would have received a letter of congratulations from both the Irish Prime Minister and the Queen, which would have been a fitting tribute to a life well-lived in her two home countries.
