Havergal College Course Calendar, 2021-22 Academic Year

Policy On Summer School, Night School, Saturday School and Correspondence Courses (OS 10 2 2 - 10 2 3) Revised for 2020 Providing students with experiences in different disciplines that help them develop an understanding of disciplinary specific thinking skills, concepts and methodologies is important in a time when students are preparing for a world that no one can imagine. To do this effectively, students need to consolidate ideas over an extended period of time. For this reason, Havergal does not recommend that students complete compulsory or prerequisite courses outside of the regular school day. If students want to take courses outside of Havergal, they should consider taking courses that will broaden their educational experience. Students wanting to take courses outside of Havergal should meet with their Guidance Counsellors and their parent(s)/guardian(s) to discuss their academic plans and ensure they are as prepared as possible for subsequent courses. Students must complete Grade 9 before they are permitted to take summer school courses. If students are completing a Grade 11 or 12 credit and wish to repeat that course, the full disclosure rule applies and both grades are shown on their transcript. Once a student has met with her Guidance Counsellor to discuss taking courses outside of the regular school day, the following consent form must be signed and submitted to their Guidance Counsellor by the last Friday of the first week of April to give the school time to prepare the school’s timetable.
