CO-CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES

Guided by our 5 P’s framework — People, Place, Perspective, Positionality and Partnerships — students build authentic relationships, explore diverse perspectives and reflect on their role in creating positive change. Whether through weekly visits, collaborative projects or community initiatives, students are encouraged to approach each experience with humility, curiosity and a commitment to learning. Through these partnerships, students develop empathy, responsibility and a strong sense of purpose — preparing them to engage meaningfully with the world around them. Community Partnerships Middle School and Senior School students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of local partnerships across Toronto, each with a different focus. All of our partnerships have our students working with and/or learning from diverse groups of people toward a shared purpose. Art City encourages young people to put their imaginations to work. Using visual art as a vehicle to foster creativity, Havergal students design, facilitate and work with local students and professional artists on shared art projects. They use these projects to bring awareness, build community and develop understanding. Grenoble Public School: Homework Club, Flemingdon Park (Weekly) Havergal students participate in partnership with Grenoble Public School to assist their primary school buddies with homework. This is a long-standing partnership focused on teaching and learning together while building bridges of understanding of lived experiences and needs. Water First (Bi-weekly) Sustainable access to safe, clean water in Indigenous communities continues to be a pressing issue in Canada. Nobody understands the evolving challenges and needs more than the people who live there. Drinking water challenges are complex: in some communities, local concerns may be around infrastructure; for others, source water contamination. Infrastructure and technology alone cannot solve the water crisis; having enough skilled people to operate and maintain the systems is also critical. Safe water needs skilled people. Water First is guided by the Indigenous youth and young adults who participate in our programs. Students at HC raise awareness of the issues through activities and announcements and will create opportunities for others to participate in order to support the Indigenous communities that need better access to clean water.
