DUAL DEGREE IN BUSINESS AND KINESIOLOGY Western University Maddy Evans

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS McGill University Sarah Moshoian

Athletics has always played a big part of Maddy’s life, which made choosing Havergal an easy decision for her because she was drawn to the school’s strong athletic program, sports-friendly campus and diverse co-curricular opportunities. Joining as a Grade 7 student, she spent her Upper School years on various soccer, hockey and ultimate teams and was awarded the Sportsmanship Cup in her senior year for demonstrating integrity, leadership and athletic ability. In the classroom, her favourite courses were Kinesiology, Leadership and Introduction to Social Sciences, which focuses on sociology, anthropology and psychology. These subjects helped her explore the science and psychology of sport, leading her to focus one of her final projects on the effects of anxiety on athletes, particularly the pressures faced by girls in sports. Today, Maddy continues her studies in sports management and leadership at Western University, where she is pursuing a unique five-year dual degree in Business and Kinesiology. She hopes to continue working in the world of athletics in the future so she can continue to advocate for women in sport and inspire younger generations of girls to get involved in athletics.

After her first tour of Havergal, Sarah knew it was the school for her because she felt it offered a well-rounded educational experience: a challenging academic environment, a robust athletics program and an array of arts-based co-curricular opportunities. Joining the community in Grade 7, she played field hockey every season and had the courage to try things she was afraid to do, such as participating on the Rugby and Rowing Teams and auditioning for the Senior Choir. She was also an avid member of the Wellbeing Council, helping to focus the group’s efforts on overall student wellness instead of only on mental health issues. In her senior year, she worked with the Guidance Department to develop post-graduation programming for students, such as a resume building workshop. Sarah discovered her interest in economics and international law at Havergal, receiving the Law Award in Grade 11. Currently, she is studying International Business at McGill University, with an interest in going on exchange as a part of the program’s global learning opportunities so she can learn about the world from a new perspective.
