CO-CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES
Senior School COSSOT Events One of the objectives at the Senior School level is to provide opportunities for students to meet and socialize with other students from a variety of schools. These events are supervised by Havergal College faculty and staff when the event takes place on campus. Other events, held at other independent schools or outside venues, are supervised by the host school. Students will be emailed social opportunities and asked to sign up. Parents of students who sign up will be contacted with event details. These events are typically billed to student accounts. Depending on the event, there may be a requirement for parent permission, but this will be communicated by the event organizer. The Coalition of Single Sex Schools of Toronto (COSSOT) works co-operatively to support and host dances as an opportunity for our students to socialize safely with students from other schools. The agreed upon dance protocol is in place for all schools. Parents/guardians and the Grade 9 to 12 student (and guest, when hosting at Havergal College) who wish to participate in a COSSOT dance must agree to adhere to the COSSOT Dance Protocol and work cooperatively with all COSSOT schools to ensure a safe and secure dance event for everyone. Parent and student compliance with this protocol is mandatory for students wishing to participate in activities with other independent schools. Senior School Dance Protocol for All COSSOT Schools Tickets will be sold in advance and not at the door. Each school selling tickets for a dance will: ● have students arriving at the dance sign in on the sheet sent in by their school and be prepared to show photo ID, if required; ● ensure that dances begin approximately between 7:30 and 8 pm and end no later than 11 pm; ● close event doors by an specific time and any promotional material, including tickets, must indicate clearly the time the doors will close; ● ensure that students know that if they leave the building in which the dance is held, they cannot re-enter; ● enforce the strict policy that no drugs, tobacco products or alcohol may be brought into the school. ● ensure that all bags, purses and coats are handed in at the coat check. Entry may be subject to a search of person and belongings and all contraband will be confiscated and appropriate disciplinary procedures will be followed; ● enforce the appropriate dress code. If a student’s clothing is deemed to be inappropriate by the host school, they will be asked to change or leave; and ● provide adequate security and faculty supervision.
