Inappropriate Use 1. You understand that incidents involving inappropriate use on and off campus may have consequences as outlined in this document, the Havergal College Code of Conduct and / or the Harassment Policy. 2. You will not submit, publish, transmit or willingly receive any defamatory, inaccurate, harassing, abusive, obscene, profane, sexually-oriented, threatening, offensive or illegal material. Possessing, viewing, sending or sharing video or audio information having sexual, violent or threatening content on school grounds or school events or buses is strictly prohibited and may result in disciplinary action. 3. You understand that unauthorized access to a device during an assessment is seen as academic dishonesty and the consequences are outlined in the ​ Academic Integrity and Honesty ​ section of the Havergal College Code of Conduct. 4. You will not print excessively without prior permission for particular purposes. The school reserves the right to charge your student account if printing has been excessive. 5. You will not install or modify any hardware or software (including music, videos and games) on any school owned computer without the permission of the school’s Information Technology (IT) Department. 6. You will immediately report any security problem you have identified to a school staff member and you will not demonstrate the problem to others. 7. Any unacceptable use of a device outside these guidelines may be recorded in your student records and repeated infractions will be addressed with sanctions, as appropriate in the progressive disciplinary model outlined in the Havergal College Code of Conduct. 8. You will not knowingly introduce a computer virus or other malware into the school network. 9. You will not tamper with, or hack into, any school resource to gain inappropriate access. 10. You will not violate any patent, trademark, trade name, copyright or privacy laws. 11. You will not plagiarize or copy any work done by others. 12. You will not purposely damage any part of the school’s equipment or computer network. 13. You will not use the school’s computer resources or network for commercial or ongoing personal business purposes. This includes, but is not limited to, using the computer resources for commercial purposes and product advertising. Sanctions and Disciplinary Actions A school administrator, in consultation with the Director of Information Technology, will determine sanctions for violations of the Havergal College Acceptable Use of Technology Agreement. When exercising its discretion to determine the appropriate sanction to apply to an offence related to acceptable use of technology, the school will take into account: 1. the age of the student and her ability to fully understand the breach of the Agreement; 2. the intention of the student; 3. the particular circumstances; 4. the nature and severity of the behaviour; and 5. the impact on the school climate, including the impact on students or other individuals in the Havergal College community.
