Dance Guidelines and Expectations

1. Participating schools are predetermined by COSSOT Middle School Coordinators / Middle School Heads. 2. Ideally, there are two chaperones accompanying the students from each visiting school. 3. Each participating school is allotted a limited number of tickets and each school determines how tickets are sold and / or distributed. 4. Tickets will not be distributed prior to attending dances at other schools, but a list of students attending will be at the host school for attendance verification. 5. Students who are on the list but not able to attend the dance must inform their school coordinator / Head prior to the event if possible. 6. Each participating school will distribute permission forms with details for the dance in advance 7. Tickets will not be available at the door. Only students from participating schools may purchase tickets, as per each school’s distribution procedure. 8. A student may not purchase a ticket for anyone else. 9. The list of students who purchased tickets will be at the entrance to the dance and only these students will be allowed to attend the dance. NOTE: We are concerned about your child’s safety—if a student shows up at a dance whose name is not on the list, their parent(s) will be contacted immediately. If parents cannot be reached, the student will go to a supervised room and remain until parents can be contacted or the dance ends 10. Once the dance has started, there is a closed door policy and participants are not allowed to re-enter the dance after leaving. 11. NO knapsacks are allowed into a dance. 12. NO cell phones or cameras in the dance area. Cell phones can be used in a designated area of the school. No photos allowed. NOTE: Schools are asked to reinforce good digital citizenship principles and practices with their students prior to the dance. 13. Students may enjoy food and drink in the designated area while at the host school. 14. Suggested ratio of chaperones to students is 1:20. 15. Active chaperoning means faculty proactively circulate and help make sure the dance is safe. 16. Should one of the student guests from any given school have a life threatening illness, the host school should be notified before the dance takes place. When the student arrives, that student should be identified to the lead teacher of the hosting school as well as to the hosting chaperones, should an emergency arise.
