Signing In and Out ● All students are expected to be at Havergal for the duration of the school day. ● A student who needs to leave school early must provide parental permission to the DSO in advance of departure. All students leaving or returning to campus must sign out and sign in at the DSO. This includes Grade 9-12 students who leave campus for lunch. ● Boarding students may not sign out during a spare / study period. ● Grade 11 students may not sign out during a spare / study period. They must remain in the building and sign in at the DSO to indicate their location within the school during their designated spare(s). ● Grade 12 students may sign out during a spare / study period. ● When a student signs out prior to the end of the school day, they are required to leave the premises. Students may not be in the school building when they are signed out because it compromises the accuracy of our attendance records. This situation poses a serious risk in the event of an emergency. Study Periods / Spares A study period is a designated block of time in a student’s timetable in which a class is not scheduled. Students commonly refer to study periods as spares. Grade 11 and 12 students with study periods will not be supervised as they are considered to be engaged in independent study. ● Grade 11 students are expected to be at school for every study period and must sign in during their designated study block with the DSO. They are expected to be in the Resource Centre or dining room during their study periods. Grade 11 students may not be in the locker area during study periods. ● As the most senior students at Havergal, Grads have earned the privilege to manage their time more independently. As such, Grade 12 students are not expected to sign in with the DSO during their designated study periods, but they are expected to be present for all school-related events including Prayers, House /
TA and grade meetings, regardless of scheduled spares. If a Grade 12 student leaves the building during her spare, she is expected to sign in and out at the DSO. This privilege may be revoked for students not complying with school rules.
