Student Led Events The primary purpose of student‐led events is to enhance mission‐relevant student learning, which is why we seek to support as many high‐quality student‐led events as possible. These guidelines serve to: (i) reduce duplica on; (ii) improve collabora on among students; (iii) provide an opportunity for new ideas and events (that might be perceived as conflic ng with a long‐standing event); and (iv) ensure that the purpose of exis ng events remains relevant. Event guidelines also provide an opportunity for a coherent, consistent review of student‐led events at Havergal College. Guidelines Student ideas for events, origina ng independently or through the Junior School Student Ins tute Team (SIT), councils, clubs, House, Form, Prefects or otherwise, must submit a proposal to the Interim Head of the Junior School, Head of the Senior School, Assistant Head of the Middle School or the Forum for Change Program Manager. Event proposals will be considered with the following in mind: 1. alignment with the school’s strategic plan and values; 2. the strength of the learning opportunity; 3. events already taking place—can they be merged, enhanced, etc.; 4. availability of a teacher/staff supervisor and any other support needed; and 5. logis cs, ming and organiza onal capacity. Student Fundraising Our approach to community engagement and fundraising aligns with our mission: we approach engagement by considering people (rather than causes or organiza ons), perspec ve (requires research and outreach) and partnership (rather than giving or helping). Fundraising in support of community partners is supported because they are our partners. We are connected to them in mul ple ways and in those deep connec ons there is a mutual accountability that enables our community to learn.
