out to your daughter’s subject teacher if if your daughter consistently struggles with comple ng assigned work and/or she seems to take an excessive amount of me comple ng it. The amount of homework assigned to students will vary depending on their grade as described below: a. Kindergarten: Parents are encouraged to read to their daughter regularly and discuss the day’s learning. Students will bring reading or math ac vi es home at different mes to work on with a parent. Students in kindergarten may also bring home “just right” books. b. Grades 1 to 6: Homework assigned in the early grades will most o en take the form of the comple on of class work or the prac ce of math facts, reading, word study, prin ng or handwri ng, music prac ce, French prac ce or any other work intended to consolidate learning in all subjects. This homework should normally take no longer than 30 minutes. In addi ons, students are expected to read for at least 30 minutes per night to improve their comprehension, fluency and decoding. c. Grades 7 to 8: Homework assignments in total should typically not exceed one hour per day and these assignments are to complete class work, to consolidate understanding of concepts, to prepare assignments and prepare for tests. In addi on, students are expected to read for at least 30 minutes per night to expand their vocabulary and improve their reading comprehension skills. d. Grades 9 to 12: In general, teachers will provide homework assignments that should not normally take more than two hours per day. Students are also expected to read for at least 30 minutes per night to expand their vocabulary and improve their reading comprehension skills. Extra Help All teachers are available to provide extra help at least one day a week during the school day by appointment. Students may a end, or be requested to a end, these scheduled tutorial sessions. Students should reach out to the teacher in person or by email whenever they feel it may be warranted. In general, teachers are fairly flexible in mee ng students before, during and a er school. But here it is important to note that teachers have other du es and responsibili es that shape their professional lives at the school. Scheduled tutorials, therefore, must accommodate a teacher’s schedule.
