● be factual (including dates and mes); ● contain no opinions; ● avoid interpreta ons of medical, physical or emo onal condi ons, and what you think is happening; ● provide a descrip on of the situa on and what was actually seen and heard that is clear and concise; ● be brief and to the point; and, ● include informa on seen or heard by the person making the report. ● record any conversa ons, word for word, between yourself and the child, or any others relevant to the situa on; ● record what the child or others said, using their own words; ● provide a full descrip on of any injury, including size, colour, shape and placement on the body; ● sign and date your notes; ● retain these notes in a secure place; ● document any further suspicions that may arise. If it is not apparent that an inves ga on has commenced within 24 hours, it is the responsibility of the Principal, Vice Principal or Head of School to contact the children’s aid society to ascertain the status of the case. ii. It is the responsibility of the Principal, Vice Principal or Head of School to contact the children’s aid society to ascertain the outcome of any inves ga on begun pursuant to this procedure. iii. If the Principal, Vice Principal or Head of School is not sa sfied or certain that the child has been protected, then the Principal, Vice Principal or Head of School will also contact the police or other support authori es. Support for the Student The School recognizes that a student who has been abused will need support, and the School will endeavour to assist the student, wherever possible. (f) Follow‐up with Police/Children’s Aid Society i.
Possible forms of support include:
● assis ng in restoring the self‐esteem of the student by involving the School‐Based Social Worker, the appropriate Assistant Head and/or Guidance Counselor and/or her teachers;
