CLASS OF 1973 ~ 45th Reunion

$ 9,676

CLASS OF 1973 ENDOWMENT TOTAL AS AT MAY 31, 2019

The Class of 1973 celebrated its 45th Reunion last fall.

CLASS REPS: Lolly Gillen and Shelagh Speers Kudos to the intrepid 11 who attended our 45th Reunion! Nine of us met at Havergal, and two more joined our wonderful dinner party at Lolly Gillen ’s beautiful new condo. An intimate group, we shared stories around the table of the teachers who had most impacted our lives. Huge thanks to Lolly for hosting a lovely evening of memories and camaraderie! Next time, we’d love to see more classmates! Lolly Gillen had a busy year dealing with 93-year-old parents and creating Canada’s first inclusive squash program for the mentally and/or physically disadvantaged, which debuted in January. In June, she’ll chair the 2019 Pan Am Junior Squash Championships in Toronto – the first held in Canada – and is quickly learning Spanish! Janette Sasso , in Mississauga, is enjoying a new career in real estate after more than 30 years in retail. She has two sons in the food industry – one a chef and one in kitchen management. In Oakville, Carroll Nicholls Baker and her husband Ted have their daughter’s young family living with them, so they built themselves a little main-floor ensuite to stay sane. They spend their winters in Sarasota. Lorraine Baker , in Perth, curls with a fun, “not too bad”

team out of RNC Curling Club in Ottawa. She met Yvonne Istl Lenz for lunch in December when Yvonne was up from Baltimore, MD. Both have cottages on Crow Lake and look forward to summertime visits. Also in the U.S., Merrill Pote stays active playing badminton in South Hadley, MA, and runs a website she created for a club to which she belongs; this challenges her mind! In Ottawa, Sally Southey combines consulting for the European Union with lots of skiing, exercise, fun and travel, including a great visit with Shelagh Speers south of Miami. Shelagh is loving the South Florida sunshine and her work at Macmillan Education, and just replaced her right knee to achieve a matching pair – she is very grateful to Sally for her stint as caregiver! Liz Belshaw Jenkins , in St. John’s, N.L., works part-time, volunteers and dabbles in acrylic painting. Life centres around FaceTime with two-year-old grandson Liam, as both sons and their families live in Blind River, ON. In P.E.I., Jan Davies runs an Airbnb called Jana seven months of the year; she meets amazing people. She spends the other five months in Merida, Mexico, enjoying the weather, culture, art and food!
