Dr. Susan Ditchburn has had many HC moments this year. Susan (Sue) Wright Gooderham 1974 visited her at the Canmore home while working at an independent school at the Banff Centre. Sue is a member of the Crofton House School Board (CHS) and attended a strategic planning weekend in Vancouver. Dr. Jennifer Russel 1994 is providing her expertise on child and adolescent mental health. Jennifer is a psychiatrist and acts as a consultant to the school. She credits Havergal with giving her the confidence at 25 to pursue her medical specialty and Susan Ladle for her love of biology. The chair of the CHS Board is yet another Havergalian - Carolyn Hunter Kirkwood. She is a strong and thoughtful leader at a pivotal time in the school’s history and her position as head of school will commence in the summer. Sue Ditchburn had the added pleasure of seeing Lois Rowe at CHS where she is bringing her leadership skills and expertise to the challenges of learning and teaching in an uncertain and changing world.

fond memories of my days at Havergal. My granddaughter will graduate from Miss Edgar’s and Miss Cramp’s School this June. Every time I see her in her green uniform, I think of my students at Havergal.” Kimberley Harvey (English) is in her 11th year as director of Senior School at York House School, Vancouver. Each year, she looks forward to the visit of Deb Hayes (VP and Head of Mathematics) to timetable for a week with her! She keeps in touch with her HC friends and is always so thrilled to hear from HC folks. Her children are Owen (6) and Kyla (9) surf, ski, cycle and run with their parents who enjoy a wonderful, very active lifestyle! Kim says, “I think of HC all the time: the fabulous people, both staff and students; the amazing programs and the beautiful grounds! It holds a special place in my heart!” Susan Haynes (Social Science Teacher) lives in the Annapolis Valley, N.S., with her daughter, an Advanced care paramedic, and her three grandsons ages 14, 13 and 10. Child care, particularly for those in the medical field working 12-plus hour day and night shifts, is impossible to find, so Susan traded teaching for house chores, cooking, homework help, taxi driving, child counselling, coaching, music concerts etc. She continues to ski, bike, read and has recently added curling and rug hooking to her list of hobbies. Joan Kalechstein (Physical Education) travelled from her home in Deep River to Toronto and, among other engagements, attended the 125th celebrations at Roy Thomson Hall. She was delighted to be able to connect with some people from her time with the school. Jack Koenka (Head of Mathematics) and wife Susan have retired and are living in the Beach. They enjoy travelling, especially in the winter. Dorothy Lancaster (Head of JS) is enjoying her work as an honorary assistant at Christ Church Deer Park, and subbing in other parishes when their priests are on holiday. Carolyn MacDonald (Head of Art) is now a grandmother. She writes, “What a birthday present! Evelyn Marie (Evy) arrived on January 10th at 11:30 pm.”

Sue Ditchburn , Deb Hayes and Chantal Gionet recently had dinner together. Deb was in Calgary providing timetabling expertise for Chantal, who is in her first year as head of West Island College.

Sue had an e-mail from Beth Love Pollock 2002, who is currently on Mat Leave with her son Nolan. She is the VP and treasurer of Gibson Energy in Calgary. They get together occasionally and Sue says Beth is a typical Havergal Old Girl— energetic, enthusiastic, confident and very capable always a delight to be with. Sue sends her warm wishes to former colleagues, OGs and friends - enjoy these warm days! Peggy Dykes-Page (Guidance) has had a couple of falls this year and is also recovering from major surgery. However, her sense of humour is still intact. Tanya Gitto (Head of Social Sciences). We were sad to hear that Tanya’s husband, Carl, died this year. She writes: “I have
