went to Spain and Portugal on a river cruise with Susan Beveridge Spratt 1955 and this year, she and her sisters are doing a tulip time cruise and on to Paris for a few days. Her Ma is still going strong at 105. Joan Graham Neely welcomed her children Tam (Whitehorse) and Greg (Sydney, Australia) and their families home for a wonderful Christmas/New Year’s. She keeps hoping that Greg will return to Canada, but the University of Sydney has given him tenure and a raise. It was fun watching grandchildren from opposite ends of the world interacting. Di Hume Ward ’s invention of a mobile accessible washroom/change facility for special needs, the first in North America, has been ordered and will be ready

for festivals and fairs in York Region this spring. It has taken 1½ years to find sponsors. She continues her weekly program with all ages and backgrounds getting together to knit or crochet for charity, or just talk. There are several teenagers, many kids as young as 6, and sometimes, she is the oldest. Santa Claus participated in a fundraiser that sold tickets to trim his beard. Di was thrilled to accept the Hall of Distinction Award and now she is hanging around the halls of Havergal.

CLASS REPS: Kathleen Bourke Bell and Christine Coutts Clement What an exciting year! Alice Payne received the 2016 Havergal Old Girls Life Achievement Award in recognition of her role as “a trailblazer for women in the Canadian resource industry.” At the annual dinner, Alice entertained us with wonderful stories of life in the bush and the oil patch. Her busy year included trips to Japan, Hawaii, Nova Scotia, upstate New York and Ontario. Virginia Evans Walker was “totally seduced by Japan’s beauty and cultural richness” during a trip that encouraged participation in many cultural activities and rituals. Following her 10th winter in San Miguel, a May trip to Kashmir and Srinigar marked Virginia’s third visit to India. Beverly Bruce Hargraft ’s expedition cruise to Greenland and the Arctic highlighted her very busy travel schedule, which included trips to France, Florida, British Columbia, Quebec, Latvia, Estonia and Finland to watch the World Figure Skating Championships. Anita Krische Von Graffen enjoyed a Caribbean cruise. Sandra Gordon Steen, Marianne Currie Steffan and Dorianne Galloway Lackey sailed to Alaska and Ann Osler Malcolmson cruised from Moscow to St. Petersburg. Wendy Salmond Quarry also enjoyed a Russian holiday, a special treat for her as her trips to South Africa and British Columbia were

work-related. Attending book fairs in Bologna, London, Frankfurt and Havana were working holidays for Nancy Sewell Lorimer . Nancy is taking singing lessons and has joined two choirs. An astronomy conference in Chile and winter holiday in Arizona provided a work break for Christine Coutts Clement , whose busy fall was highlighted by her son’s wedding the weekend before Alice’s celebration. Melissa (Missy) Hart DeGeer spent six very happy months in Florida meeting new people and reconnecting with longtime friends. A visit from her great-grandson, golf, tennis, choir and a trip to Turks and Caicos kept Judith (Judy) Labatt Ross Stewart busy during her Florida winter. Mary Jean Borden Potter visited Florida’s Gulf Coast and reported that the P.E.I. family reunion last summer was a great success. Nancy Lorriman Siemms also enjoyed a large family reunion at Christmas before her winter in South Carolina. Patricia Hamilton Winter celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary with family in southern France. Curling, golf, bridge and four granddaughters keep her very active. Nowthat CarolynPurden hasofficially retired, gardening and visiting her grandchildren take priority.
