Campus Restriction Restriction to campus is a common consequence for a variety of rules infraction such as not signing out properly, failing room checks and repeated violations of late lights. When a student is restricted to campus, they may not leave the Havergal College campus, except for required school obligations. Students may not participate in voluntary or optional off-campus school activities, and parents and guardians are expected to support the school by not signing out the student. Parents and students cannot negotiate or reschedule a restriction or any consequence to accommodate personal plans. Serious infractions include, but are not limited to: ● Possessing an illegal substance, weapon or alcohol. ● Being off property without permission. ● Violating any part of the school Code of Conduct and Rights and Responsibilities. This level of infraction will be immediately reported to the Head of Boarding and the Deputy Principal will also be informed. Parents are formally notified of serious breaches of Havergal’s Code of Conduct or the policies, procedures and expectations of the Boarding Program in writing by the Head of Boarding or Deputy Principal. The letter will document the disciplinary action taken by the College after conducting an investigation Boarding Agreements When a student has violated a major rule and/or repeatedly failed to meet expectations, they will be placed on a behavioural agreement. While on a behavioural agreement, a student must follow all Boarding policies and guidelines, and meet the expectations set forth under the conditions of the contract. Students under this status must demonstrate a willingness to uphold the ideals of the Boarding community through responsible action, a positive attitude and co-operation in all areas. Dance Policy Boarding students may attend dances held for their grade level hosted by Havergal as well as by other schools with which Havergal is associated. COSSOT rules and regulations apply to all school sanctioned events. Permission to attend a school dance is considered to be a privilege. Students who have shown a lack of cooperation with the Boarding School or who are experiencing disciplinary issues or who are having problems with school work may lose the privilege of attending dances. This is at the discretion of the Boarding Staff. Fire Precautions Fire doors, smoke detectors and heat sensors in rooms, corridors and fire escape routes are checked regularly by the Facilities Department. Fire drills are held frequently. Tampering with any fire equipment is a criminal offense. The burning of incense or candles in the Boarding School is strictly forbidden as is the use of any open flame, including lighters.
