Farewell

It is hard to say farewell to someone who has had a tremendous impact on the life of a school I love so much. The legacy that Mrs. Helen-Kay Davy leaves behind is one that touches every aspect of Havergal. Helen-Kay’s impact cannot be underestimated. Her visionary strategic plan has reimagined academics, facilities and community. The school is a different place than it was when she arrived, but yet it holds tight its traditions and values. Helen-Kay arrived in 2014 with much to do in her new school and new

home country. At that time, Havergal was in need of a strategic plan and it was clear that physical infrastructure would be required to maintain our competitive advantage in the independent school sector. I think it is safe to say that few principals have started a job with so many loose ends to tie. But, without fear, Helen-Kay stepped right in and got to task. Under her leadership, Havergal has embarked on the largest building and fundraising campaign in the school’s history. Throughout the massive undertakings upon which she embarked, she focused at all times on

the student experience and opened the door to increased leadership and student voice for Havergal girls. Helen-Kay has the incredible ability to see the bigger picture and to step back and reflect before resolving challenges. This steadfast approach leads to long- term solutions that address the needs of all stakeholders. Havergal has gone from strength to strength under her leadership. On a personal level, I have learned so much from Helen-Kay about leadership and life. She is a deeply sensitive and compassionate person and her care and concern for students, faculty and staff was always evident in our interactions. I will take these lessons with me as an educator and as a human being. I am delighted that Helen-Kay will have some time for much-deserved rest after a very successful academic career. That being said, I will miss our regular early morning meetings. How lucky the Havergal community has been to be the final school to be led by Helen-Kay Davy. She has shaped Havergal for the future and the school is a better place because of her leadership.
