Profiling Our New Board Members 2017–18

Susan Bell The Rev. Canon Susan Bell joins the Board as the representative for the Anglican Church. She is the Canon Missioner for the Diocese of Toronto, where she works as a catalyst and encourager of mission throughout the Diocese. For the past 10 years, she served as the Chaplain of Havergal College, directing the Religious Education program, leading worship and providing pastoral care for the school community. She has also served the parish of St. Martin-in-the-Fields since 1997. Rev. Cannon Bell is the co-author of two Mission resources for the church, the author of historical articles and a doctoral candidate at the University of Toronto in the faculty of church history. Ian Chen Dr. Ian Chen is an adolescent medicine specialist providing mental health as well as puberty and developmental health care to teens and young adults. He has been an advocate for young people through various initiatives in the medical community. Dr. Chen is an educator, a researcher and an engineer with extensive experience in technology and translational research that aims to identify factors affecting adolescent brain development and is developing technology to engage young people and to impart resiliency in order to maximize their potential. Farah Ismail 1996 Farah Ismail, Class of 1996, joins the Board as Vice-President and Chair of the Governance Committee for the Havergal Old Girls Association (HOGA). After graduating from Havergal, she went on to achieve a Bachelor and Master’s of science in nursing and then pursued her law degree. Ismail is a nurse-lawyer and the Director, Practice Quality, at the College of Nurses of Ontario. She has worked in various leadership roles in both the hospital and community sectors and formerly worked as a lawyer at a Toronto based firm, where she focused on insurance, tort and health law and developed her expertise for risk management and quality improvement practices.
