Torch - Fall 2017

Thank You from the Chairs

It’s an exciting and pivotal time to be part of the Havergal community. Parents who send their daughters to this world-renowned school do so because they believe in raising girls who are confident, resilient and equipped to spearhead change in an increasingly complex and competitive world. As chairs of the Havergal College Board of Governors and the Havergal College Foundation, we see, from behind the scenes, the hard work, passion and resources it takes to offer this kind of education. That’s why we’ve taken it upon ourselves to add to our list of tasks in the community. We are also now co-chairs of the Limitless Campaign . This two-year-old capital campaign, as many of you know, seeks to raise $21 million by 2020 to fund key upgrades to the school’s facilities. By taking on dual roles and truly working as a team, we believe we can accomplish so much more. We are proud to say this community has already done a great deal. The capital campaign has now reached the $8.5 million mark. Already, the 2017–18 fiscal year looks promising. The ongoing leadership, hard work and passion of groups such as the Havergal Old Girls Association (HOGA) and the Havergal College Parents Association (HCPA) have contributed considerably to this success. Meanwhile, every day, the amazing staff and faculty at Havergal remind us why we are so dedicated to this school. Principal Helen-Kay Davy continues to lead in a way that balances proven educational principles with brave insights about the kinds of futures our girls will surely face. But as we look back over this past year and note our accomplishments, we must also remember that there’s still work to be done. This is a pivotal time in the capital campaign— we are not there yet. Ellen Knox always urged girls to “make a difference.” To give them the tools to keep changing the world, we have to be difference-makers, too, by offering our support in any way we can.
