Torch - Fall 2013

Graduating classes ending with ’3 and ’8 returned to Havergal on Saturday, September 28, and Sunday, September 29, to reconnect with former classmates and with the Havergal community. On Saturday, Old Girls checked in at the Old Girls Welcome Desk in the Rotunda, grabbed a delicious cup of coffee in the Hava Java Coffee House and attended a special tree-planting celebration commemorating the life of Lisa Hardie 1993. Then they were off to take in all of the sights and sounds of Celebration Saturday, including the Old Girls against current students’ field hockey game on the Ratcliffe Field. It was another close match ending in a tie! Thank you to Judy Ratcliffe 1952, our coach extraordinaire. Thank you also to Anna Coatsworth 2001 for being the field hockey coordinator of the Old Girls team. On Saturday night, the Reunion Years Cocktail Party brought together a record number of more than 350 Old Girls to mix and mingle with friends, classmates, staff and former staff in the Brenda Robson Hall. A number of Old Girls even donned their tunics for the occasion! Lots of laughter could be heard as they reminisced and looked at old pictures of their time at Havergal in an archives display as well as a digital photo display, prepared by the school’s Archival Technician, Debra Latcham. A special thank you to Sarah Siu 2008, who led everyone in the singing of the school song by taking on the piano accompaniment—including all nine key changes! Old Girls then moved on to their special class celebrations for the remainder of the evening. Old Girls were back at the school on Sunday morning to attend the Old Girls Chapel Service led by the School Chaplain, The Reverend Susan Bell, and to do a bit of shopping in the Green & Gold Shop. Finally, the Class of 1963 attended a special luncheon honouring their 50th Reunion. Thank you to everyone who helped make Reunion Weekend so special! Reunion Weekend 201 3

Classes ending with ’4 and ’9 will celebrate reunions next year. Mark your calendars now for 2014!
