influence on Prayers. Lola Kassim 2000, head girl in her final year, provided a superb response in the 2005 Chronicle : Say, perhaps, a visitor from outer space attended Prayers and asked, “What are you doing?” … Well, we’ve come together to try to understand a little more about what life, the human journey, is all about. To try to find out what is true and real and important to each one of us. To give ourselves permission to be still and quiet for a short while and to let our minds discover, accept, reject and struggle with different thoughts and ideas that will help us to move along on our journey, not just now, but perhaps later in our lives. Over the years, speakers in Prayers, whether administrators, faculty or staff members, Old Girls, students or special guests, have surprised, touched and often galvanized their listeners. Perhaps the following talks on core values, delivered in the years since the school’s centennial, did all three:
Upper School Prayers Brenda Robson, former Dean of Students and current staff member
Junior School Prayers Brenda Robson, former teacher
Life Balance Deb Hayes, former Vice Principal
Kindness Rosemary Corbett, former Vice Principal
Students have also spoken in Prayers, giving memorable meditations on the power of these enduring values. Some students, however, chose to communicate their insights through the printed word.
