The March 2014 BTI article, written by Caprice Herjavec, details the events that make the tradition a wonderful week of fun and refreshes school spirit:

Spirit Week

However much one loves Havergal, when the holiday season is a distant memory and March Break is not yet on the horizon, the dank days of February can seem to last forever. That’s why it is the perfect time for Spirit Week, five days in which the whole school eagerly joins in light-hearted and creative activities designed to dispel the winter blues and fire up school spirit for the annual hockey match against Bishop Strachan School (BSS).

The hockey match is, of course, the highlight, and it is attended by students from the Upper School and the upper grades of the Junior School. The teams compete for the Elizabeth Hewitt Cup, donated by Bill Hewitt in honour of his mother, wife of famed sports broadcaster Foster Hewitt, who is best known for his play-by-play calls for television’s Hockey Night in Canada .
