Dr. Winn Barlow’s empathy and compassion were key factors in the school’s decision to honour her many contributions with a bursary in her name. It was with deep sadness that the community said goodbye, but mixed with that sadness was heartfelt gratitude—some of which was memorialized in a boisterous staff serenade:

Havergal was privileged indeed to have Dr. Winn Barlow lead the school into its second century. Life often takes unexpected turns, and you need to have the confidence to take hold, to be entrepreneurial, to be able to manage change and to take sensible risks when interesting and exciting opportunities arise, which they will. In other words, your ability to be flexible will be important. I believe that your education here at Havergal has given you the skills and the knowledge to have all the confidence you will need to be able to lead fulfilling and successful lives. —Dr. Winn Barlow, Ludemus , 1995–96
