Admissions Information and Procedures for 1998 school year: • Applications to Havergal for all grades should be submitted as early as possible. • Interviews begin right after Thanksgiving. • Major entry years are Junior Kindergarten, Grades 4, 7 and 9. Spaces are available in other grades through attrition. • There are Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT) dates (and different locations for writing) in November, December, January and February. • The last recommended date to write the SSAT for entry to Grades 7, 8 & 9 is January 24th. The deadline for SSAT application is January 12th. • For Grades 10 and up, it is recommended that students write the SSAT as early as possible. Offers to successful applicants for Grades 7, 8 & 9 will be made at the end of February. Some offers may be made at the end of February to successful applicants in Grades 10 and up, but offers can continue to be made through to the beginning of school in September, depending on spaces available. Lower School Admissions If parents are interested in September 1998 placement in the Lower School, they should contact the school before the end of November. Assessments of prospective students are con¬ducted at each grade level. Candidates for J.K., S.K. and Grade 1 are seen individually by one of our teachers for 15 to 20 minutes. Applicants for Grades 2, 3 and 4 are seen in small groups, and the assessment times vary from 1.5 to 3 hours. Grades 5 and 6 applicants attend an interview before returning to write the entrance test, which takes place on a morning in mid-January. During these times, there is an opportunity for parents to meet with Nancy Richards, head of the Lower School.
Hi! I’m your tour guide. Welcome to Havergal. This greeting says a great deal about life at HC. The Welcome Committee, headed by Ashti Persaud, plays a very important role in presenting the wonders of Havergal to guests, prospective students and parents. The students on this committee greet our guests and give informative tours of the school. While these girls are very busy, they still know the importance of being good ambassadors for their school and give valuable input. I often remind the staff that we are all part of the Admissions Team. In fact, Old Girls, parents and friends of the school are also part of this very impor¬tant team, telling the community about the outstanding programs offered at Havergal. There are many oppor¬tunities for all of us to sell the school by our good words and support. The Admissions Department welcomes calls regarding concerns or queries that you might have. We are proud of HC and want to celebrate the school’s strengths. By Cathy Wilson, head of Middle School, and director of admissions
