and result in the generation of more energy and ideas. Through “blue sky” and planning sessions, we determined the key areas upon which we will focus … In the coming years, there would be even greater cause for celebration, as HOGA again broadened its mandate, making the most of advances in technology and, of course, the spirit and drive of its members. Old Girls extended and deepened their involvement in the life of the school, offering students precious gifts of time and experience. Most Havergal friendships begin in the classroom. Girls in green kilts and knee socks, giggling, playing and learning together. These girls become our lifelong sisters, embracing our successes, forgiving our faults and supporting us in good times and bad. Decades-long friendships built on these strong foundations are among the greatest gifts that Havergal provides. But these aren’t the only friendships that begin behind the ivy.

When people ask why we choose to volunteer at Havergal, we often say it is our turn to give back. But that’s not the entire truth … We joined the HOGA Directorate to give back, but we have received in spades too, as Havergal continues to provide us with friendships years after graduation. Our Havergal years did not overlap, but we have been lucky enough to discover each other and more Havergal sisters through our work on the HOGA Directorate. It turns out that Old Girls are, in some ways, all cut from the same cloth. Without exception, our fellow Directorate members are smart, engaging, caring, fun and funny women whom we now proudly call our friends. Working with, and befriending women, from different decades has shown us that it was not luck that created such special bonds with our classmates. It was Havergal.
