CO-CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES
Art Co-Curriculars
Junior School Arts Co-Curriculars (Grade 1 to 6) We enrich the lives of each member of the HC community by reaching beyond classroom walls and incorporating the interests of our Grade 1 to 6 students. This support of lifelong learning, ability and interest is pursued through engagement with clubs and the arts. Students are encouraged to explore and investigate new interests and ideas that may develop into passions. Co-curriculars are run by Havergal faculty, staff and outside instructors. ● Primary Choir (Grades 1 to 3): This group is focused on building foundational vocal skills in an engaging introduction to choral singing. Group members are introduced to ensemble skills through diverse repertoire in unison, round and in partner songs. This supportive environment helps young singers develop confidence and discover the joy of making music together. Choristers prepare for performances including the Christmas Concert, in Prayers and at other Havergal-related events. ● Junior Choir (Grades 4 to 6): Members of the Junior Choir continue to build on the skills learned in Primary Choir, focusing on two-part repertoire. Students learn more advanced vocal techniques such as proper breathing, diction, tone and expression. Junior Choir singers prepare for various performances which may include the Christmas Concert, Founders’ Day, CIS Music Festival and other performance opportunities in the Havergal community. ● Havergal Learn to Play Strings (Grades 4 to 6): This program teaches students the basics of playing the violin and cello. Students will learn about techniques and form while playing simple tunes with their peers. This course will assist students in determining if they will continue with strings in Middle School. Instruments may be rented through the school. ● Learn-to-Play Band (Grade 6): Students in this program learn the basics of band instruments while playing simple tunes with their peers. This is an excellent program in helping students decide if they wish to continue with band in Middle School. Instruments may be rented through the school.
