CO-CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES

11. respect teammates, coaches, referees and opponents; 12. inform coaches when they are injured; and 13. make sure coaches are aware of any teammates who are injured or hurt. Coaches are expected to: 1. support the Havergal Athletics Mission and Philosophy;

2. be knowledgeable about the rules, strategies and tactics of the sport they are coaching; 3. communicate clearly about expectations, schedules and playing time to athletes; 4. be prepared and on time for all practices and games; 5. support the development of student-athletes toward improvement in skill and knowledge of the sport, keeping in mind the age and stage of development of their athletes; 6. instil a sense of respect for the rules, officials, opponents, team and self in athletes; 7. teach and embody sportsmanship and fair play; 8. be age-appropriate in considering playing time for athletes; 9. respect athletes, parents, referees and opponents; 10. educate the team about the importance of being safe and healthy when playing; 11. ensure that the health and safety of the players is a top priority; 12. educate players about the importance of disclosing any injuries sustained by themselves or their teammates; and 13. maintain open communication with parents. Parents and spectators are expected to: 1. assist student-athletes by helping them to meet their expectations; 2. contribute positively to the athletic experience by demonstrating the utmost respect for coaches, officials, athletes and opponents;

3. instil a spirit of fair play and sportsmanship in their children; and 4. make sure the coaches know if their child has been injured.

Competitive Athletics Program Structures, Processes and Guidelines

Havergal teams are available to students in Grades 4 to 12 and compete in CISAA. Senior School teams may qualify for the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association (OFSAA) championships. Havergal College fields more than 85 teams over the school year.
