EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

School Closure Procedures

A decision by the Principal to close the College is not taken lightly. The safety of students, faculty and staff are a priority.

Situations that may warrant a school closure may include: ● extreme weather conditions that impact road safety and access to transportation*; ● loss of essential services (such as water and/or power); or ● ministerial and government recommendations or orders that require schools to close for health and safety related purposes.

* The College consults the Environment Canada website and the Weather Channel, as well as other schools, in making a decision regarding to close the College due to inclement weather.

Timing: When information warrants that the College will be closed prior to the school opening on the same day, the decision shall be made by 6 am.

When information warrants the College will be closed the following day while students are at school: ● Students and employees will be informed while at school via email and/or PA announcements. ● Parents will receive an email message. ● Communications & Marketing will post a closure message on www.havergal.on.ca and inform the media/radio stations. ● The recorded school telephone greeting will be changed to inform callers of the planned school closure. When information warrants the College will be closed prior to the school opening on the same day: ● All parents and students will receive an email message. ● Communications & Marketing will post a closure message on www.havergal.on.ca and inform the media/radio stations. ● The recorded school telephone greeting will be changed to inform callers of closure.

Please note that on the first day of a closure, no academic classes will be scheduled. Boarding School students will remain on campus and the College will be closed to Day School students.
