Wednesday, Delayed Start  (9:10 am Start & 3 pm Dismissal)

Study after study emphasizes the important health‑promoting role adequate sleep plays in  supporting the wellness needs of young people. Our students confirmed as much in a school survey  we conducted. Parents have also raised concerns about the lack of sleep their daughters get,  especially during busy times of the school year. That's why Havergal implemented a pilot program  in 2017‑18 that had Upper School students experience a delayed start one Wednesday per month.  The feedback we received from students and faculty on this pilot initiative was overwhelmingly  positive and helped the school make its decision to revise the Upper School schedule for 2018‑19.  Beginning Wednesday, September 12—and every Wednesday after that—students in Grades 7‑12  will have a delayed start by going directly into their Period 1 class at 9:10 am. On delayed start  Wednesdays, the school day ends at 3 pm. This makes possible four 70‑minute teaching blocks,  which students experience every other day of the school week. This information will come as news
