Family Handbook 2018-19

● In the Junior School, students are assigned unlocked cubbies to keep their personal  belongings.   ● In the Upper School, each student is assigned a locker that must be kept locked at all times.  Items such as backpacks, books and uniform items should be labelled and stored in their  lockers.

The school cannot assume responsibility for loss or theft.

Upper School Lockers  Students are issued a locker for use throughout the school year. Students must use the locker  assigned to them and they may not use more than one Havergal locker. They are expected to keep  all of their books, school supplies and personal items locked in the locker when not in use. This  prevents loss and possible theft. Three scheduled locker cleanouts occur in a school year. Prior to  Christmas vacation and March Break, students must tidy their lockers and take home Physical  Education and other clothing for cleaning and discard any food or garbage. Prior to final exams,  students must empty their lockers and take home all belongings. Any locker that is defaced will be  cleaned or repaired and the cost will be charged to the student’s account.   Locks  Upper School students provide their own combination locks. Extra‑strong, hardened‑steel locks are  not permitted because Security cannot remove these kinds of locks with bolt‑cutters when  required.  Lost and Found (JK–Grade 6)  Items found in the school are stored in one of three locations. The first is in the Kindergarten  classroom; the second in bins in front of the window overlooking the butterfly garden by the Grade  1 and 2 classrooms; and the third at the top of the Grade 4 to 6 staircase. Three times a year (late  fall, late winter, late spring) these items are placed on display in the main hallway for students and  parents to retrieve lost items. Parents are always welcome to look through the lost and found  storage. Items of significant value are stored in the Junior School Office.  Lost and Found (Grade 7–12)  The Upper School lost and found is affectionately called The Pound. It is located at the west end of  Level B near the Green & Gold Shop.
