Final Summative Evaluations (Grades 7–12)
Final evaluations are scheduled during the last weeks of classes or during the Examination Period that follows regularly scheduled classes. The timetable for final examinations is set by the end of April. The final evaluation provided students with an opportunity to demonstrate their comprehensive understanding of the overall expectations for each course. Middle School Exams Middle School students may write exams that are 1.5 hours in length and worth up to 20% of a student’s final grade. Middle School students will know in advance which exams will be written during the exam week and which will be a performance evaluation in lieu of a formal exam. Senior School Exams Most exams in Grades 9 to 12 will be two hours in length, but some last up to three hours. They count toward 30% of a student's year‑end grade. In some subjects, the summative evaluation is the final exam. In other subjects, the summative evaluation is comprised of the final exam and another cumulative assessment. Your daughter will know how her year‑end grade will be determined in each subject. For a more comprehensive description of how JK–12 students are assessed and evaluated please refer to the 2018/19 Upper School Course Calendar , which is published on the ‘Resources’ section of Parent Portal on pages 16–21. This includes information about how Junior School report card grades are determined. Log into the portal at: community.havergal.on.ca.
