CLASS OF 1979 ~ 40th Reunion

$ 29,954

CLASS OF 1979 ENDOWMENT TOTAL AS AT MAY 31, 2020

The Class of 1979 celebrated its 40th Reunion last fall.

CLASS REPS: Jane Cardarelli Devine and Sarah Sedgwick Parry We had a wonderful 40th Reunion at Susan (Susie) Eplett ’s. More than 45 people attended, which is amazing! Thanks to all who came and all who helped. It was great to catch up with so many of our classmates after all these years. We all decided that we look the same! Susan Willemsen has gone back to upgrade her wine credentials originally done when she lived in London in the 1980s. She just passed her WSET Level II (again) “with distinction” -- amark of 94. Jill Thompson , are you listening? She did her French Wine Certificate exam in March. Jane Ross and her hubby planned to visit Beth Crosbie in her wonderful Newfoundland in June. She is still working and enjoying it and weaves in time during the week to do things like have breakfasts and lunch with many of you. She really enjoyed singing with the choir alumnae, including Susie Eplett and Victoria (Tory) Ross , at Miss De Freitas’s memorial service the day after our reunion dinner. Barbara (Barb) Callander continues to head up the operations excellence, Six Sigma and operations learning teams at Maple Leaf Foods. She joined the Havergal College

board of governors in 2019. Wildlife photography continues to be a passion, from Antarctica to the Arctic (penguins to polar bears). To see her amazing photos, follow her on Facebook. Luisa Di Lorenzo has been appointed by the American Academy of Ophthalmology to be the secretariat representative for Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin and Illinois. She also represents the Michigan Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons for Medicare. She and her husband continue to travel; when this was written, they were on a New Zealand jaunt after having visited the Galapagos and Peru in November. They also play in a band for recreational reasons only. As her husband likes to say, “we are good enough for the basement, and we may be good enough for the living room in a few years.” In thrilling news, Anne DesBrisay became a granny in late 2019. Gus is a delightful little guy, other than his penchant for living 3,500 km away in Victoria. When Anne isn’t sure how to behave as a grandmother, she consults Katrina Symons Ayling , who is a pro. Deirdre Kelly writes that after decades as a staff writer at the Globe and Mail , she is now editor of The York University Magazine .
