CLASS OF 1973 ENDOWMENT TOTAL AS AT MAY 31, 2020

CLASS REPS: Lolly Gillen and Shelagh Speers Apologies to Merrill Pote , who’s not in Massachusetts as reported last year, but in Toronto, where she enjoys badminton and Zumba and manages her badminton club’s website. She tried pickleball, but badminton won! Mary Lou Sherman is planning a hiking holiday in Scotland and a Maritimes road trip. She takes courses at U of T, without exams! Lynn Plummer Morse enjoyed Florida this winter with her husband Paul and skiing at Revelstoke with her son Pete. Her life is full of work, tennis, yoga and physical challenges with her husband. Lolly Gillen , Squash Canada’s international delegate to theWorld Squash Federation, was elected secretary-general of the Pan-American Squash Federation in Lima, Peru. As co founder of the Canadian Inclusivity Squash Program, Lolly was in St. John’s, N.L., for its first tournament and caught up with Elizabeth (Liz) Belshaw Jenkins . Liz and her husband Bill survived eight days of Snowmageddon 2020– the longest they’ve spent face-to-face! Liz works part-time and runs a non-stigmatizing school lunch program. Both of their sons and their handsome two-year-old grandson live in Ontario. Carroll Nicholls Baker and her husband Ted reclaimed their Oakville house after 18 months cohabiting with kids and grandkids. After wintering in Florida, they’re considering New Zealand or Australia next year. In Ottawa, Sara (Sally) Southey enjoys a mix of work, travel, exercise, volunteering, time at Blue Sea Lake, family and friends. She enjoyed coffee with Janet Frost in Ottawa and encountering Lynn Plummer Morse at the well in Messines, QC! Beverley (Bev) Davies-Fraser raises and trains beagles in Red Deer, AB, and will judge the sweepstakes at the National Beagle Club of America’s 50th-anniversary specialty in Ohio in September. She caught up with

roommates Susan Rankin Golding and Gwen Barker Benjamin , both doing well and still working. Gwen and Bev both have grandchildren; Bev’s three are in Nashville, TN. Janet (Jan) Davies runs her P.E.I. Airbnb (JAnaB Log Cabin) for half the year, sharing the peace and beauty with guests. Then she’s in Mérida, Mexico, learning Spanish and enjoying yoga and Pilates. Summer visits with Janet Frost and her sister are a joy. Janet and her husband Brian are expecting their first grandchild in June. Now cancer-free, Janet is working on her fitness in anticipation of Nana-hood. Settling into her N.S. farm, with renovations nearing completion, Mairy Lloyd Merkley hosted a wolf-coyote, a big buck, a grey owl and two bald eagles in the fields behind her farmhouse this fall. At the time of writing, Mairy was in northern Portugal on the Atlantic coast, enjoying the huge surf. Anne Grosskurth and her husband Julian love living in London, U.K. Thanks to medication and early retirement, her M.S. remains stable. Their two sons live in Brisbane and Oxford: no grandchildren yet! A yoga addict, Anne takes art history courses, volunteers at her local hospital and campaigns for low-cost London housing. In south Florida, Shelagh Speers and her husband Greg are into tropical gardening at their new house in Cutler Bay. Still working in publishing, Shelagh’s a regular at Pilates and sings with Greg in two choirs. They enjoyed a Muskoka holiday with family last summer and love having visitors, especially their daughter, Laura, from N.Y.
