CLASS OF 1971

CLASS OF 1971 ENDOWMENT TOTAL AS AT MAY 31, 2020

CLASS REPS: Judy Betteridge Haust and Elizabeth White How does our class relax, decompress and find fulfillment? Many, such as Wendy Horne Rutherford , do this by enjoying grandchildren and travelling. Janet (Jan) Redfern Beddoe chooses yoga, kayaking, cooking, quilting, family Sunday dinners and screen-free summers at Go Home Bay. Mimi Andresen Gray and Bob had a winter adventure in sunny Spain. Pamela (Pam) Smith Poole enjoys cottaging, skiing and volunteering with the London Track 3 ski school for kids and young adults with disabilities. Leslie Thomas appreciates photography and enjoys trips centred around art history. For Anne Menzel Larson , life is mellow – travelling, golf, hiking, volunteering, reading, playing mahjong – but only if she stays away from U.S. politics, which makes her crazy! Margaret (Margie) Cowan Shannon loves life in Oxford, doing volunteer work, book club, Pilates, country walks, receiving old friends ( Laurie Hayhurst Cruess and Alan last December). She had been looking forward to her daughter’s summer wedding in France and a fall reunion with Neuchatel classmates in Switzerland. For Gillian Anderson , relaxing means gardening and baking special cakes! Susan Meech finds that mindfulness keeps her grounded. She writes song lyrics for her sister Joy and acts, dances and performs with a ukulele band. Susan Manchee feeds her soul by getting outdoors daily and into the wilderness often, spending winters in Colorado and summers in Atlin, B.C. She looked forward to connecting with Heather Kitchen in Alberta. For Deborah (Debbie) Morris , it’s connecting with her daughter, family and friends. Ann Robertson has been enjoying renovating their older home. She maintained a sense of humour throughout her husband’s wrist injury after an icy slip! Anne Gibson , now a step-great-grandmother of four, is chilling after 33

years at the Toronto Public Library. Judith (Judy) Langmuir finds joy in her private practice, Balanced, and has fallen in love with golf. Patricia King-Edwards , when not working as a freelance editor, unwinds with online Scrabble, saunas and good soaks in a hot tub. Lally West Hood and Rob were spending two sunny months in Costa Rica before splitting the remaining 10 between Toronto and Bala, enjoying family. Nancy Wright Bark enjoys getting together with old friends and has learned to “let it go!” For Elizabeth White , relaxation and cottage are synonymous! Judy Betteridge Haust creates photo chronicles based on family, friends and travel. The prize for imagery goes to Susan Robinson Bell , who “dances with abandon, belly laughs, animates fantastically incredulous stories, splashes mischievously in puddles...” before doing helicopter-leaps into her feathery bed and travelling deep into Never Never Land! It’s time to break it to you that next year, the Class of 1971 will become Cinquantenaires! What better way to accept being 50 Years On than by getting together with good old friends! We’ll be remembering Carol Sinclair Leier , who passed away in January. Already, some of you have offered help or even to host our Reunion, so we’re looking forward to having as much fun planning as we will when it all comes together in 2021!

DEATHS Carol Sinclair Leier

Editor’s note : Last year, we mistakenly attributed Susan Meech’s news to Susan Manchee when we reported on the unexpected deaths of Susan’s mother and brother. We extend our sympathies along with our sincere apology for this very regrettable error.
