CLASS OF 1964 ~ 55th Reunion

CLASS OF 1964 BURSARY TOTAL AS AT MAY 31, 2020

The Class of 1964 celebrated its 55th Reunion last fall.

CLASS REPS: Teresa Woods Snelgrove and Diane (Di) Davies We started our 55th Reunion at the home of Mary Susanne Lamont for a luncheon on Saturday, September 28. We dedicated our reunion to Lani Nugent Moses , who served on the Reunion Committee for many years and hosted some reunions in her home. A total of $2,055 was given by classmates who attended and by some who were not able to attend. In consultation with the school, a visiting artist will come to the classroom to lead a unit on sustainable fashion using recycled material – a topic well suited to Lani’s interests in fashion and gardening. Di Nugent Cathro attended from Victoria and then visited with her son and family in Newmarket. Following a delicious lunch hosted by Mary Susanne, a small group attended the reunion cocktail party at the school and had dinner at a nearby restaurant. It was a great day to catch up on friendships. On Sunday, a few of us attended the memorial service and reception for Miss De Freitas in the Great Hall. In Australia, Kathy Batten Johnson and her bridge team have qualified to play in the Asia Pacific games in Perth. She is enjoying her great-granddaughter. Unfortunately, she still battles with chronic back pain. In the United States, Jan Coe Parks spends a lot of time in Austin, Texas visiting grandchildren Olivia (3) and

Ford (1). Sue Gudernatch Dowling had her family for the holidays and then went to the Mexican Rivera for two weeks before heading to Florida until the end of March when she had planned to return to N.Y.C. In Ontario, Mary Susanne Lamont has travelled to South Africa in November. She is on the board for the Carol Shields Prize for Fiction. Last year, Mary Glendinning and her husband went with their daughter to San Miguel with an art group and spent the summer preparing for their son Donald’s wedding at the farm. He earned his Ph.D. in nanotechnology. Their other son Allister was called to the bar. Teresa Woods Snelgrove ’s granddaughter graduates from Havergal this year. Sue Swan is U of T’s 2020 Jack McClelland Writer in-Residence; she will give weekly workshops at Massey College. She also co-founded the Carol Shields Prize for Fiction with editor Janice Zawerbny. Anne Zurrer Martin is recuperating from a fracture of a small pelvic bone as a result of a fall downhill skiing. She is not giving up skiing after 60 years, but travel plans are on hold. Margot Kay Hillman has a new grandson. She and her husband continue their 30+ years doing the Terry Fox event, and she continues to meet her “birth” relatives. Andrea Moore Ritchie enjoys her volunteer work at a local hospital and giving massages to residents and families in her local hospice. She has a second great-granddaughter.
