CLASS OF 2008

CLASS OF 2008 ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS TOTAL AS AT MAY 31, 2020

CLASS REPS: Carolyn Gooderham, Alexandra Rolland and Andaleeb Shariff The Class of 2008 had an incredible year. Other than celebrating our 30th birthdays (for most of us), we also had some great accomplishments, of which we would like to share a few. Steph Long is a second-year PhD student at McGill University; her research is at the intersection of medical research and machine learning as she aims to develop a more efficient and less expensive clinical trial. Courtney Potts completed her residency, is now working as a locum in Nova Scotia and will be moving to Toronto to begin her practice there come spring. Shea Black continues to coach girls softball, recently founding a new program for the Etobicoke Girls Softball League. This year her team achieved a record season, winning six gold medals, including the provincial championship. A few of our old girls have returned home to Toronto. After four years working as an environmental activist in Whitehorse, Yukon, Julia Duchesne is now pursuing a master’s of journalism at Ryerson University. She will be working at the National Observer this summer. Carly Green is back in the city and working as a pediatric dentist. Danielle (Danni) Chu is practicing competition/antitrust and foreign investment law with Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP. Sarah (Spear) Rhind , who returned home from N.Y.C., has a son named Jack. Kirsten (Wong) Hannay also welcomed a son named Finlay. Growing her family as well, Francine Lopez , who became a dentist this year, is expecting a baby girl this summer. Some of our class are pursuing exciting endeavours outside Canada. Olympia Kiriakou is still teaching at Florida Atlantic University. She recently published her first book called Becoming Carole Lombard: Stardom, Comedy,

and Legacy . Geneva Long was incredibly honoured to be recognized on the Forbes Under 30 List this past year. Zehra Hassan is living in Karachi and last year got to the base of Mt. Everest. Christie Campbell finished a 3000 km hike in New Zealand, moved to Vancouver and is now in-house counsel at MEC. Alex Mingay is completing her residency at NYU Brooklyn and will be getting married this year. Speaking of nuptials, Brittany-Leighe (Brit) Welton got married to Mark Eisner on February 29, 2020 – a leap year wedding! Jamie Shea got engaged at the top of Whistler Mountain and is getting married this summer in Prince Edward County where she will be joined by Jen McCain and Emily Murphy Strevens as part of her bridal party. As for your class representatives, Alexandra Rolland is still living in the United Kingdom. She consulted on the International Planned Parenthood Federation global reform process, and is now working on reproductive and sexual health projects with Options Consultancy Services. Andaleeb (Andi) Shariff still lives in upstate New York and practises as a family physician. She was surprised with a proposal on the top of New York City last year at sunset and was so stunned she almost forgot to say “yes”. Carolyn Gooderham celebrates five years working at SickKids, and continues to learn to play hockey (she can almost stop!).
