CLASS OF 1976 “STILL IN OUR HEARTS” BURSARY TOTAL AS AT MAY 31, 2019

CLASS REPS: Christine Lautenschlaeger Acconcia and Kathryn (Kathy) Thom Cynthia Caldwell is working with seniors to help them see the benefits of the power of food and encouraging their physical well-being through walker-dancing. That brings us to some retirement news: Judy Mitchell Carlton has returned home toCanada fromVenezuela and, after a three- month renovation, has settled in Victoria, B.C. – visitors are welcome. Kathy Thom will also be retiring in the fall and plans to fill the first year (or three, I’m told) with training a new puppy. Leslie Omstead is renovating a house which was built in the 1800s, and can now work a mean Skilsaw – all this between a trip to Turkey last fall, making plans to sail the San Blas Islands of Panama again and welcoming a new granddaughter. Mary Rusz has completed another trip to Europe, which included a research trip to France for her Architecture Primer for Young People project, on which she’ll work after she retires from NYC service in the fall. Mary has been recognized for her significant contributions to the profession of architecture by being elevated to a fellowship with the American Institute of Architects; this CLASS REPS: Nan Laine Dunlop and Jill Adamson Mallory Gillian Carpenter is still with the Royal Canadian Air Force; she is posted to National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa. It’s good to know that our safety is in her hands! Her daughter Jackie will be starting at Havergal in September as a Grade 9 boarder. She and Gillian celebrated her 13th birthday in Paris in December 2018. Elizabeth Van de Mark Gallagher ’s daughter Katherine lives in Boston, and her son Joseph lives in Florida, while she spends six months in Newport and six months in the Bahamas! Nancy Drope teaches yoga from home and at the Vintage Hotels and the White Oaks Spa and Resort. She became a certified Oracle guide in 2018 through Colette Baron-Reid’s Oracle School – she calls it Hogwarts/ CLASS OF 1977

will be celebrated at their national conference in June. Barb Langmuir is also celebrating a personal achievement from her bucket list, having walked the Portuguese Camino de Santiago – 700 km in 29 days, and she didn’t break an ankle (only a wrist on day 20). Lisa Kimball received a $1.5M grant to support congregations in equipping people of all ages to claim their Christian vocations more confidently and recently welcomed a puppy to her family. Debbie Reid continues to do brilliant work potscaping for the 4 Seasons with lots of time off to spend with family on Amherst Island. And how’s this for a small world? Hilary Meredith ’s nephew married Laurie Stollery MacLachlan ’s daughter! They had a splendid time celebrating together in May. Finally, our hearts go out to those of you who have experienced the loss of loved ones this year – mothers, husbands and our dear friend Lisa Cheeseman Demacio, who lost her long and courageous battle with cancer.

Havergal! She continues to live in Niagara, and one out of her four kids married last summer. The pictures are beautiful! Christine Mallory-Munk is keeping herself busy with work, jazz festivals, travel and selling a new product to help people regain their vitality, while still catering. Jan Andrews Varner and her husband are enjoying retirement, living four months of the year in Ramea, Newfoundland, five months in Belize and the rest of the time travelling in their RV with their two young Jack Russell terriers. Jan still does some team development and management training to add to her travelling money. Wendy Esaw Davis is still working full time for Barclays in N.Y.C. Her oldest daughter is graduating from Harvard this year, and her youngest is a sophomore at U of Vermont. Wendy and her husband cycle and ski as much
