Class of 1958 Reunion.
CLASS REP: Diane (Di) Hume Ward Sixty years on, we had a terrific Reunion. On Friday evening, there was an informal gathering at an amazing Airbnb on Lytton that Liz Blunt Poarch and Cynthia (Tinks) Thun Willauer rented for out-of-towners and others to use. Much talk and laughter ensued – a good way to begin the weekend. On Saturday, after attending the cocktail party at the school and having our photo taken, 15 of us gathered for a delicious catered dinner in St. Timothy’s Parish hall. We began by reading the names of those members of our class who have died and also those who were unable to attend the reunion for one reason or another and had sent regrets. Reminiscing, stories and laughter filled the air – no dreary “organ recitals” here! On Sunday morning, 10 of us attended the Old Girls service – reminiscent of Prayers in our day with familiar hymns, a failed attempt at singing the school song and a more successful rendering of Forty Years On . The weekend concluded with a light lunch at Ann Tottenham ’s condo before we again scattered “afar and asunder.” Some shared reflections on the reunion catch the spirit of the group:
• “I think of you just as you were at school; we may be called Stoneagers, but truly we are just a bunch of school chums.” • “I am impressed with [your] vitality and vigour; I loved getting to know you now as such caring, creative, compassionate, wise and experienced women who are truly making a difference in the world.” • “I can’t remember when I last laughed so much! We giggled just like we did when we were teenagers, and sang just as badly; wasn’t that fun?” • “It was fun to see our young selves but also bittersweet to see that so many of our old friends have died or slipped away. I almost feel that those of us at the reunion were the survivors, the last ones standing – some with the help of a cane – but with a lot of spirit and humour.” • “I was interested in seeing how many of us are very involved in their community, making a difference and loving what they are doing.”
