CLASS OF 1955

CLASS OF 1955 ENDOWMENT TOTAL AS AT MAY 31, 2019

CLASS REPS: Jane Dalton Avery, Diane Drewry Elder and Fiona McHaffie McGaw This year, most of us will be turning 82, and a few of us are taking the trip of a lifetime as Ann Clarke Rowe is doing this year with a trip to the Galapagos. She is keeping active with tai chi, yoga, bridge and cribbage when she visits Mary O’Neil Wheeler , who is in long-term care in Barrie. Joan Winearls continues to work with the school archives and is transcribing letters from boarders of the 1920s. She also does a lot of travelling, and this spring is going to Crete. She has taken two river cruises in the south of France and highly recommends them. Ursula Style Carter and her husband, Bill, have returned from a trip to the Far East, flying to Kuala Lumpur, driving to Singapore and sailing to Hong Kong. What a trip! Ann Borden Bull has moved to Toronto to be near her husband, Chuck, who now lives in long-term care at Scarlett Heights Chartwell. Hopefully, we will see more of her now, with less property to look after. June Clarke is having more difficulty with her Parkinson’s condition but has a walker to help with her mobility. CLASS REP: Dorothy Vernon Macdonald Wendy Blair is again taking piano lessons after 40 years of having a baby grand piano in her living room and not playing it. It brings great happiness - but the lessons can get humiliating if she doesn’t practise. Janet Gibb Reynolds is happy to report that she has enjoyed good health. She did some travelling in 2018, the highlight being a cruise on the Danube to Budapest. Her church activities and weekly volunteer work at Sunnyvale Community Services fill her days. She sends good wishes to all her classmates. Life on the West Coast is wonderful but far too busy for Diane Austin Kettner . She is a member of the board of Pacific Opera Victoria, chair of her seaside condo complex CLASS OF 1956

Congratulations go to Patricia (Trish) Beatty who will be inducted into the Dance Hall of Fame in March 2019 along with her co-founders and choreographer, David Earle and Peter Randazzo. Trish still writes poetry, and in Mexico sees Nina Hamer who keeps herself busy writing and translating from her house by the sea. Heather Kellerhals Stewart has recently written “ Clancy Canuck and other Cautionary Tales ” for children everywhere. A beautiful service of thanksgiving was held for Mary Saunderson Chamberlain at Christ Church Deer Park on October 26, 2018. Her older grandchildren took part as readers and intercessors while Clive gave a heartfelt and touching tribute to her and their 55 years together. Many of our class were present to remember Mary and the many times we gathered at her home in Toronto for Class Reunions.

and still trying to retire from active design work. She says that a visit from a former classmate would be a welcome surprise. Ann McCullagh Hogarth continues to be involved with the National Ballet of Canada, attending lectures and trying to keep as alert and fit as possible now that she is in her 80s. Ann is thrilled that her daughter Dinnie and Dinnie’s husband Jim have bought a cottage on Stoney Lake, allowing her to see much more of them as they come east from their home in Calgary. As usual, Mary Percival Maxwell and her husband Jim are spending the winter on Sanibel, something for which they are particularly thankful this year. Unfortunately, they have had no visits from their busy family.
