CLASS OF 1951 ENDOWMENT FOR ARCHIVES TOTAL AS AT MAY 31, 2019

CLASS REPS: Margaret (Marg) Fitch Szücs, Jean Martin Lawrence and Heather McPherson Ballon Hallelujah! With a little help from Elizabeth (Liz) Ogden Meyers, Jean Martin Lawrence finally tracked down Claire Applegath Keith Larsen . She and “Trigger” now live year-round in Melbourne, Florida. Marilyn (Marnie) Joan Messecar Parish , who was a dedicated volunteer at Bloorview Hospital and SickKids, died last year. Some of us are still in our homes; others have moved to seniors’ residences or care facilities. Our intrepid volunteers: Marilyn Gilbert Anderson (in Guelph), Heather McPherson Ballon, Mary Uren Dame (in London), Anne Mackersy Hull and Margaret Ainslie Tuer are still doing their good works. Margaret Norrie McCain continues her activities in pre-school education and has completed one year as Chancellor of Canada’s National Ballet School. Some lucky folk still travel. Cathy Clark Cameron went to Turks and Caicos with her daughter. Liz Ogden Meyers went to Florida with hers. Elisabeth Marani Bacque still spends winters in the Bahamas. When Mary Burbidge Helleiner comes to Toronto from Halifax twice a year, she and Marg Fitch Szücs have lunch together. Joan (Kelly) Kalthoff Burt had to skip California this year because of a knee operation, but she has already booked for next year.

The number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren continues to increase: Liz Ogden Meyers ’s family has now grown to 37! Heather McPherson Ballon still plays tennis and also enjoys participating in a seniors choir. There are still many bridge enthusiasts, e.g., Cathy Clark Cameron, Molly Davis Endress and Liz Ogden Meyers. The keenest is probably Joan Taylor Atkin , who plays duplicate bridge four days a week in Barrie. She doesn’t let arthritis stop her from playing golf in the summer. Some opt for a milder form of exercise: Katherine (Kitty) Samis and Mary Vickers walk their dogs. We have also been in touch with Marjorie Cowan Fish and Judith Bishop Perry . With this issue, Marg Fitch Szücs gives up writing the Class News. Her time as Class Rep began in 2001 when the late Judith Cunningham Hunter persuaded her to take on the job. For several years she worked alongside the late Jennifer Crawford Borden . It’s been a slice, guys. Once again, we urge you to support the school’s archives program by donating to the Class of 1951 Endowment for Archives.
