CLASS OF 1996 CURRICULUM ENRICHMENT FUND TOTAL AS AT MAY 31, 2018

CLASS REPS: Jennifer McCarthy Bidwell, Jennifer Lamont and Kendra Thompson Following our big 20th, it’s been another busy year. Mia Skarpathiotakis , Carolyn Singer and Willow Rygula all welcomed new babies since we saw their bumps in the EK library. Marnie Michener got married and decided to follow her passion for food by launching a catering company while attending chef school. Caley Taylor is also studying culinary arts, while making time for her photography business and long-distance swimming. Hilary Curry is still in Dubai, where she finished her PhD and is engaged. Jen McCarthy Bidwell has retired as president of the Old Girls Association and recently finished a big reno on her house. She lives just down the street from Katie Maggiacomo St Louis , who continues her work at St. Michael’s as a speech-language pathologist. Tanja Vlahovich loves coaching her son Max’s hockey when she isn’t busy in the ER. Ingrid Hakanson started working in residential care at UBC while staying on at VGH in critical care and, somehow, she still finds time to DJ. Elspeth Tory lives in Ottawa and works in web and graphic design and Sara Cohen Gelfand is working as a family doctor in Toronto. Kim Beare continues to practise veterinary medicine part time in Sidney, B.C. She has three boys and has become an advocate for pediatric cancer research, fundraising for pediatric acute myeloid leukemia (her middle son is one-and-a-half years in remission). Joanna MacDonald is helping with healing as a chiropractor in Vancouver, when she’s not on the slopes or her mountain bike. Cynthia Warrick Verona is executive-producing content at Heyd & Seek and animation/vfx at IAMSTATIC. Elizabeth Zahorchak Chambers has taken on a new role as professional learning co-ordinator at CAIS (Canadian Accredited Independent Schools) and is awaiting the birth of her son as we type this. Farah Ismail Boddy was recently appointed to a new position as acting director of professional conduct at the

College of Nurses of Ontario, as well as representing us all on the Havergal board of directors, vice-president of Havergal Old Girls Association directorate and chair of the governance committee. Julia Gillespie Pantalone also sits on the directorate as the voice of the Junior School, where her daughter Ella is in Grade 3. When not at Havergal, she’s likely in a hockey rink cheering for Charlie and James. We reconnected with Lyranda Martin-Evans , who now has two sons and was recently promoted to V-P, executive creative director at DentsuBos. She hosts a podcast called Womenwill , so you can check it out. We also tracked down Sarah Johnson Perez in Calgary working as a pharmacist; despite her St. Lucian roots, she loves skiing with her three kids. Kendra Thompson and Sarah Walters Beales continue to juggle busy jobs and are having fun skiing with their families at Beaver Valley. Carolyn Singer continues to work in the renewable energy field (with a company called ENGIE Canada) and welcomed her third baby girl, Olivia, on her birthday in August 2017. Her older sisters Charlotte 4 and Madeline 2 were very excited by the addition to the family. The hardest news came from Angi Salomon Barkan , whose husband passed away suddenly this past July. She is still living in New York City with her daughter Sunny and will be starting a new job as the vice-president of marketing for S-Curve Records/BMG. She asked that we share just how touched she was by the outreach and support from so many in our class after Ryan’s death.
